Sport club of Armenian state institute of physical culture and sport (FIMA) was formed in 1946 by volunteer sport organization «Bolshevik». FIMA together with chairs preparing professional sportsmen is engaged in enhancing the students’ sport skills, organizing various in-institutional sport and mass events, preparing the institute national team for taking part in republican sport events, replenishing RA national teams.

The activity of the sport club parallel with student- athletes’ sport skills enhancement is directed to providing healthy lifestyle of institute staff.

In 1969 by the decision of the republican sport board FIMA got the right to participate in republican competitions by sports company status, which stimulated to the development of FIMA national teams. These years the institute teams of athletics, gymnastics, weightlifting, football, handball, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, boxing, rowing, fencing, swimming, water ball and others as a rule won the title of the strongest teams of the republic.

In 1954 the first sports festival of the institute took place, which became traditional and is held up to now.

Since the foundation of the Armenian state institute of physical culture and sport the student - athletes have taken part in Olympic games, World and Europe championships and always kept high honor of the native sport. Among them the following are worth mentioning: Hrant Shahinyan, Albert Azaryan, Arthur Hakobyan , Eduard Mickayelyan, Eduard Azaryan /gymnastics/, Vladimir Yengibaryan, Albert Nickoyan, Nshan Munchyan, Israyel Hakobkokhyan /boxing/, Norayr Musheghyan, Benur Pashayan, Gurgen Baghdasaryan, Pavel Malyan, Nazar Albaryan, Armen Mkrtchyan, Arayik Gevorgyan, Gnel Mejlumyan /wrestling/, Yuri Sargsyan, Ogsen Mirzoyan, Ashot Danielyan, Arsen Melikyan /weightlifting/, Igor Novikov /pentathlon/, Faina Melnik /athletics/, Yerjanik Avetisyan /archery/, Hrachya Petikyan /shooting/, Shavarsh Karapetyan /underwater swimming/, Oleg Klevtsov /cycling sport/ and more others.

Sport club of Armenian state institute of physical culture and sport was headed by K. Vardanyan /1946-47/, A. Melikyan /1947-49/, Sh. Hertevtsyan /1949-50/, A. Kostanyan /1951-52/, H. Yengibaryan /1952-54/, G. Safaryan /1954-69/, M. Vekilyan /1969-79/, B. Amiryan /1979-87/, H. Melkonyan /1987-98/, K. Karapetyan /1998-2011/, Kh. Harutyunyan /2012- up to now/.
