The chair was founded in 1945, as a chair of hygiene and therapeutic control. The founder and the first head of the chair was Doctor of Medical sciences, professor Gurgen Minasyan.

In 1947 it was joined to therapeutic physical culture chair and was named chair of health control and therapeutic physical culture, afterwards it was renamed sport medicine chair.

Some lecturers with more scientific pedagogical experience who worked at the chair are: associate professor L. Gevorgyan, PhD of medical sciences, associate professor I. Oganova, PhD of biology, associate professor H. Manukyan and others.

In 1996 specialty of Kinesiology has been opened.

In 2004 specialty of «Adaptive physical culture» was created adjacent to the chair and the chair was renamed to Kinesiology and adaptive physical culture

In 2008 «Adaptive physical culture» was separated and the chair was named Kinesiology chair.

During the last 10 years 1 doctoral and 7 candidate dissertations, thesis were defended, more than 200 scientific articles were published in republican and international scientific collections.

Today the following specialists are working in the chair: 1 Doctor of Medical sciences, 2 PhD of Medical sciences, 3 PhD of biological sciences, 2 PhD of pedagogical sciences

The educational program of the chair is :

For Bachelor’s degree – Health improving physical culture: kinesiology. Qualification -Bachelor of Sport

For Master’s degree - Health improving physical culture: kinesiology. Qualification – Master of Sport

The chair prepares the following specialists: kinesiotherapists (specialists of healthy lifestyle, specialists of rehabilitative gymnastics, massage therapists, instructors of therapeutic physical culture). The staff of the chair is cooperating with leading rehabilitative centers, as well as with city polyclinics and hospitals.

The format of teaching

• 4 years of bachelor’s degree

• 1 year of Master’s degree (full-time tuition and distance learning departments)

Since 2013 – up to now the head of kinesiology chair is PhD of pedagogy, associate professor, professor A. Martirosyan.
